Welcome to private piano instruction. Lesson programs are designed to meet specific needs of each student. This includes a balance of theory, technique, sight reading, ear training, improvisation, and repertoire appropriate to the student’s level of proficiency. Recitals will be made available during the year for the student. When a recital opportunity is offered, each student is encouraged to participate, but not required. Recitals are offered to further the student’s music goals and benefit the student with performance opportunities. It is important for us to understand the terms of our professional relationship. The agreement details are described below.

This agreement is for one, 30-minute lesson per week and will begin on    /  /     with a cost of $_______ per selected subscription period:  ▢ Each Lesson, ▢ Monthly, ▢ Quarterly, ▢ Semiannually, ▢ School Year, or ▢ Annually. .

Section II – Processing Fee

A $25 one-time processing fee will be collected from students/families at initial signing of the Music Lesson Agreement. A reinstatement fee of $20 will be tendered from students who have previously forfeited their time slot described in See Section IV Attendance.

Section III – Tuition Subscription 

The subscription amount per student for one 30-minute lesson each week depends on the selected subscription period (by the lesson, monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, or annually). The rates are outlined on the Pricing Table page. A 10% discount applies for families with more than one student or a student that will take for more than one time-slot per week.

Full subscription payment is due prior to the first lesson of any subscription period option above. The subscription cost is the same amount for each subscription period, regardless of the number of lessons in that period. Tuition payment is due on the last lesson of each period for the total amount due for the next period.If the student does not attend the last lesson of the period, then payment is due on or before the last day of the period. Lessons for the next subscription period will not proceed until payment is received. Tuition is non-negotiable and non-refundable. Tuition pays for a time-slot in a schedule regardless of attendance. See the next section for attendance details. Schedule time-slots for each paid subscription period are protected for the duration of that period. However, the Pay by the lesson option does not protect any future schedule time-slot unless prepaid.

Section IV – Attendance 

Notification of 24 hours is required in the event the student cannot attend a lesson. We provide a grace allowance of 4 absences each year. The subscription period will be extended by one lesson for each of the absence days used. Tuition for missed lessons is not refundable. A student’s scheduled time-slot may be forfeited with two consecutive unexcused absents. There are no make-up lessons. Make every effort to contact your instructor in the event you will not make the lesson on time. The instructor is only obligated to wait 15 minutes beyond the scheduled start time of the lesson. If the student arrives late, the time will be deducted from the assigned piano lesson time-slot. Time will not be taken from the following lesson slot to accommodate late arrivals.

If the instructor cannot attend a lesson and no other instructor is available to substitute, the subscription period will be extended by one lesson for each lesson missed by the instructor.

Advanced notice of one month is requested upon termination of this agreement. If the agreement is terminated prior to the end of the subscription period, the remaining time on the subscription will not be refunded. There are no refunds. The cost of music books and supplies are not included in tuition. Payments for book and supplies are due upon receipt.

Section V – Instructor’s Responsibility

The instructor will:

  • Punctually attend all scheduled lessons,
  • Be well-prepared for the student’s scheduled lesson,
  • Maintain communication with the student (and/or guardian) regarding progress. Note: lengthy discussion will be performed outside of the instructor’s schedule as to not disrupt another student’s time-slot. 
  • Preparing and scheduling performance opportunities for the student throughout the year.
  • Provide (at student’s expense) necessary books and learning materials.

Section VI – Student/Guardian’s Responsibility

The student will:

  • Communicate with the instructor any special needs of the student,
  • Assure that the student will be present for each lesson with all practice materials in hand and completed, 
  • Motivate and support the student in establishing a daily practice routine. A practice time of 30 minutes per day is suggested.
  • Assist in providing a home environment conducive to good learning habits. For example: Instrument in a location absent of disturbances such as TV, or other such distractions.
  • Make tuition payments on time at the last lesson of every subscription period for the next period.
